WAYS
TO HELP:
VOLUNTEER
Help is always appreciated
in the office and kennel of Paws
4 Liberty. Volunteers can assist with informal
dog training, kennel upkeep, dog care, office/computer work,
fundraising, or other tasks in the day-to-day operation. School
students can earn community service hours. Groups
like scouts and 4-H can organize service projects. No
prior experience with dogs or dog training is necessary; we'll
train you. Whatever your background, your contribution
of one or more hours a week can help make a difference.
We ask for the following
from all volunteers:
- Donation of $25 (all of which directly supports our work
with veterans and other disabled persons)
- Signed "hold harmless" form and confidentiality
agreement (see below)
- Commitment of at least 15-20 hours over a three-month
period (you will get a certificate when you're done or
the paperwork
you need for school)
- Watch short videos on dog safety and canine
body language (provided by Paws 4 Liberty)
- If you will be helping the
trainers, read a pamphlet on
dog training, a "How We Train" handout, and "Training
Vocabulary" handout
All volunteers should understand:
- You must abide by our training
guidelines; for example, if our service dogs in training
are working,
they
are not allowed to "say hi" to each other,
and we will ask you to respect that policy.
- Unless you
request office work, you may come in contact with dog,
cat and horse
hair; water; barking; shampoo; cleaning
chemicals like Nature's Miracle, Odoban, Lysol and Simple
Green; alcohol-based hand sanitizer; and sometimes, urine
and feces.
- You may be working in the sun (please
wear sunscreen), lifting things (not more than 20 lbs.)
and doing lots of
walking and bending at the knee. No flip flops or open-toed
shoes, please. Shorts are OK.
- You will have access to air conditioning,
bathroom facilities, a refrigerator, and cold water. You
may wish to bring an
extra drink and snack.
If
you would like to volunteer:
Complete the
three forms available on our "FORMS" page
and return them to the address provided.

DONATE
The
journey from puppy to trained service dog takes nearly two
years. The costs
of caring for and training a dog, maintaining the kennel, operating
the office, and paying a professional trainer are considerable. As
a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, Paws 4 Liberty actively
seeks the financial support of charitable foundations, service
organizations, and individuals. To offer your support, please
contact us.
You may also make a personal donation using
